Cloud Transformation and Modernisation
A Commonwealth shared-services provider needed to modernise a fragmented legacy ICT environment while reducing operational risk, infrastructure complexity and long-term cost exposure.
What we did
EmberPoint established enterprise architecture governance and led a cloud-first transformation program spanning infrastructure, identity, networking and modern workplace services. The team designed and implemented Azure-based cloud platforms, modern device management, Zero Trust-aligned access controls, and secure hybrid connectivity patterns.
The work included migration of applications and virtual machines to cloud-native hosting, rationalisation of legacy infrastructure, adoption of SASE architecture, and implementation of cloud governance and FinOps practices. EmberPoint also developed reusable architecture standards and governance mechanisms to ensure decisions remained aligned to operational and financial objectives.
What it delivered
The organisation reduced its hosting footprint from more than 1,200 servers to fewer than 400 and consolidated fourteen SQL versions into two Azure SQL Managed Instances. The program generated more than $2 million in annual savings through infrastructure, cyber and connectivity rationalisation.
The environment achieved Essential Eight ML2 and PSPF ML3 while improving resilience, scalability and operational visibility across multiple agencies.
Why it matters
EmberPoint designs cloud environments to operate sustainably over time, not simply to complete migration milestones. The engagement demonstrated how architecture, governance, cyber and delivery leadership must operate together to achieve durable transformation outcomes.
